Can you give four hours a month to help feed hungry families with After the Harvest?

Program Director Karin Page is looking for 30 people to supervise gleanings, working one day a month (or more if you want!)—June to November, Monday-Saturday mornings in the summer with later start times in the fall. We will try to match you with a farm close to your area.

Field Supervisors are the backbone of our volunteer gleanings…sometimes we have produce to harvest and volunteers but no supervisor so no gleaning can be scheduled.

How you would help:
· On gleaning day, meet with the farmer who’ll show you what and how to harvest.
· Then, supervise the gleaning for about three hours (usually 7:30-10:30 a.m. in the summer, later in the fall)–overseeing, engaging and teaching groups of volunteer kids, youth and adults–always assuring safety rules and farmer instructions are followed.
· Record pounds gleaned and then you and the volunteers deliver the produce to assigned food banks or pantries.

Gleaning with your own group is fun and helps so many
Now is the time to reserve a date(s) for your group to glean! Pick some dates June-November, Monday-Saturday, and we’ll find ones that are open and reserve just for you.

As the date draws closer, we’ll let you know the exact location and what you’ll be gleaning (pears, zucchini, blackberries, peppers…depends on what’s ready to harvest!). We try very hard to make sure your travel to a farm is within 30-45 minutes. Contact Outreach Coordinator Sandy Vivian.

Outside of the Kansas City area, we’re also concentrating on finding gleaners in the St. Joseph and Marshall areas for nearby farms there. If you have contacts for groups in those areas, let us know.
