We work with farmers in Missouri and Kansas to glean their fields and orchards after the harvest, to gather up produce left behind by mechanical equipment and pickers. This fresh, locally grown food is delivered to food pantries and feeding agencies in close proximity to the farm where it is gleaned.

Already Picked and Packed

We also work with excess, graded out, or rejected produce that cannot be sold for market reasons. This food may come from commercial farms, produce packing companies, grocery stores, farmers’ markets and more. We work in Missouri and Kansas, and can locate nearby food banks that will take larger quantities, and food pantries and agencies that will take smaller quantities.

Be kind in September: National Hunger Action Month

From After the Harvest Executive Director Lisa Ousley:  More and more in today’s society, compassion—helping others on the most basic human level—seems to have become a dirty word. And mean-spiritedness seems to be spreading like wildfire with no water in sight. Well, I don’t accept the premise that “mean” is okay. I choose to fight [...]

Waste brings bittersweet moments…join the conversation

By Volunteer Coordinator Mariah Friend: Standing in the middle of a field on a hot summer day, ears of corn stretch in every direction. The rows are narrow and the sweet corn is plentiful. A group of twenty-five volunteers are spread out over an acre of land, each one making their way down a row [...]
