From Sandy Vivian

On Friday, May 29, we said goodbye to our office in the Harvesters’ building (thank you so much, Harvesters, for providing an office, computers, desks and filing cabinets over the past year so that we could create this new nonprofit organization and get our feet on the ground).

And now that a year has passed since After the Harvest first opened our doors, we’ve settled at a new home at 34th and Broadway in a newly renovated office space on the 8th floor of the VFW building (thank you, VFW!).

Christina Martin, our Pro Bono Consultant, headed up the search for our new offices and she was instrumental—working side by side with Executive Director Lisa Ousley—in negotiating our lease, determining space needs, overseeing renovation and everything in between.

Big kudos to Lisa, who has worked tirelessly to get our three-person strong staff moved into these offices—from schlepping boxes, ordering new business cards, getting a donated printer from her brother (!), to, this morning, we saw her with a screw driver in her hand, reading the instructions for a printer cart assembly!

Lisa, Karin Page and I each have an office—oh happy day—and now we can actually hear you when you call!! We have new computers, but borrowed tables in lieu of desks, and chairs from the VFW building folks. There is a pending grant out there that would enable us to purchase office furniture so we’re crossing our fingers.

Regardless, we are so grateful to have the move behind us…we’re home and we love it…because we can put our resources behind helping hungry families.

Our new address is:
After the Harvest
406 W. 34th Street, Ste. 816
Kansas City, MO 64111

If you’re visiting, park on 34th across the street from the VFW building in visitor parking, come through the doors on 34th and check in with security. They’ll direct you from there.

Next up: A database that can help us better track all that needs to be tracked as we glean more fresh produce to feed hungry people in the area.
