March is National Nutrition Month: How ATH is fighting hunger and promoting health

MARCH 13, 2023

March is National Nutrition Month, and it’s an opportune time to focus on the importance of good nutrition and the role it plays in our overall health. Unfortunately, for many people in our community, access to nutritious food is a daily struggle. This is where After the Harvest comes in. Our organization is dedicated to fighting hunger and promoting health by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need.

At After the Harvest, we believe that access to healthy food is a basic human right. We work tirelessly to rescue surplus produce from farms and produce distributors that would otherwise go to waste, and distribute it to local food pantries, community kitchens, and agencies fighting food insecurity. This ensures that those experiencing food insecurity have access to the most nutritious part of a meal: fruits and vegetables.

It’s no secret that a diet rich in fruits and vegetables is essential for good health. These foods are packed with essential vitamins, minerals, and fiber that our bodies need to function properly. They are also low in calories, making them an excellent choice for those trying to maintain a healthy weight. However, for many people living in poverty, fresh produce is often too expensive or simply unavailable.

This is where After the Harvest comes in. By rescuing surplus produce and distributing it to those in need, we’re not only fighting hunger but also promoting good health. We’re ensuring that everyone in our community has access to the nutritious foods they need to thrive. In doing so, we’re also helping to reduce the risk of chronic diseases such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease that are often linked to poor nutrition.

In addition to rescuing surplus produce, ATH is also committed to educating the community about the importance of good nutrition. We believe that by empowering people with the knowledge and skills they need to make healthier choices, we can make a real difference in the fight against hunger and poor nutrition.

At After the Harvest, we’re proud to be fighting hunger and promoting health by providing fresh fruits and vegetables to those in need. We believe that everyone deserves access to healthy food, and we’re working hard every day to make that a reality.
