Berry-licious: ATH and Driscoll's distribute nearly 3,000 pounds to local agencies across five counties

APRIL 28, 2023

After the Harvest’s Strawberry Day 2023 was a resounding success! Thanks to the generous donation of 3 pallets of fresh strawberries from Driscoll’s Berries, a total of 2,880 pounds of the sweet and juicy fruit were distributed to 31 different agencies across 25 different zip codes in the 5 county area (Jackson, Clay, Platte, Johnson, and Wyandotte). Despite the event being postponed for a month due to mudslides and flooding in California, our dedicated staff, volunteers, and agency partners worked tirelessly to make sure these berries got into the hands of those who need them most.

For many of the agencies who received the strawberries, it was a rare treat to receive fresh produce that had been picked and packed only days before. Often, they are used to receiving food nearing its expiration date, so these delicious berries were a welcome surprise.

The agencies that received the strawberries included a diverse range of organizations, from food pantries and shelters to schools and religious institutions. This means that a wide range of people, including those experiencing homelessness, poverty, and food insecurity, were able to enjoy the fresh, nutritious berries.

The following agencies received the delicious strawberries this week:

Abundant Life Food Pantry
Agape Multicultural SDA
Avondale United Methodist Church
Catholic Charities Hope Distribution Center
