Ripe for the Picking: Glean with ATH this spring! 2023 Volunteer Calendar now open
APRIL 28, 2023
Volunteering with ATH to rescue fruits and vegetables and donate them to those in need is an amazing opportunity to make a difference in your community. Not only are you helping to reduce food waste and fight hunger, but you’re also reconnecting with where our food comes from and learning more about the produce we’re harvesting.
When you glean with us, you’ll have the chance to get outside, get your hands dirty, and have fun while making a positive impact on your community. You’ll work alongside other volunteers and staff members who share your passion for reducing food waste and fighting hunger.
By helping us deliver freshly harvested fruits and vegetables to our partner agencies, you’ll have the opportunity to see firsthand the impact that your efforts can have on those in need. You’ll be able to help provide fresh, healthy produce to people who might not otherwise have access to it, and you’ll be making a real difference in their lives.
So if you’re looking for a way to give back to your community and make a difference in the lives of others, volunteering with After the Harvest is a great place to start. Click here to learn more about what to expect, and sign up today to help us fight against food waste and hunger!
- Visit the Volunteer Calendar on our website. Sign up as: “Individual,” “Family/Group” or “Organization” (office, scouts, school, etc.) and fill in the projected number of gleaners and ages. You will receive an email with instructions and a link to fill out the required electronic waiver form. All volunteers attending are required to complete a waiver form before entering the field.
- If you see a gleaning event listing that says “produce gleaning,” instead of, say, “apple gleaning”, that means we’ll be gleaning, but don’t yet know what will be ready to harvest on which farm. Our gleaning network manager will e-mail you near your gleaning week with the farm address, field supervisor contact info, produce to be gleaned and notice of delay or cancellation due to bad weather.
- On the sign-up form, tell us if you can help deliver gleaned produce to food banks or pantries, and we’ll make our best effort to find an agency along your route.
