What a bumper year we have been having! With your help, we’ve saved over 300,000 lbs. of food since May 19th, but, we still need more gleaners. Please forward this message to people you know and share our posts on facebook, so we can keep this wonderful food from going to waste. CALL ME at 816.853.4460 if you can help with the following activities:

  • Tuesday, August 26th, 8:00 am. I need one person to ride shotgun with Tom to pick up (and re-box) tomatoes and other produce from BearCreek farms in Osceola. And if anyone wants to glean, they have 19 long rows of tomatoes that need picking!!
  • Tuesday, August 26, 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. Tomatoes in Platte City. I need 10 people to pick organic heirloom tomatoes at our lovely farm in Platte City. The temp is predicted to be 73 degrees at 7:30, so it will be nice!! Please help, and maybe shop in their store and get some farm fresh eggs.
  • Wednesday, August 27, 8:00 a.m. -10:00 a.m. Tomatoes in St. Joseph. This is another organic farm. Please help us save these precious crops to feed people in need. The weather is supposed to be 73 degrees at 8:00 a.m., cloudy with a chance of rain. We LOVE that kind of weather when we glean. It will be beautiful. 10 people could do this in 2 hours. Please help! This farmer is also donating several flats of herbs that we will need to take back to food pantries that have green houses.
  • Thursday, August 28, 8:00 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. Apples in Smithville. 5-7 people could pick these 4 trees rather quickly - you will be picking windfalls and apples on the trees.
  • Friday, August 29, 8:00 a.m. - 10:30 p.m. Leaving open for wherever we will be needed most on those days. IF you already know you can help, let me know, tell me where you are coming from so I can start looking. I’m thinking maybe KCK or Raytown can use us.
  • Saturday, August 30. 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Asian Pears - Conception Junction. I spoke with our farmer last Friday and he begged me to help him find volunteers to pick the pears. Last week he and his wife picked 4,000 lbs. Also, he told me that they are “glutting” the St. Joseph foodbank, so we need people to help transport the pears, too. We will be here for another 4 weeks. Get your groups together and sign up!

Lawson, MO - Do I have any readers who can drive to Lawson to get apples? If so, please call me.

Can’t get out in the field? Please be a virtual volunteer. Help me develop networks of volunteers in Osceola, St. Joseph, and Nevada. Call me for details.

Can’t help this week? PLEASE forward to friends, coworkers, family.

Would you like to lead any gleanings? If I had more field supervisors, we could be at more farms saving more food. Can you help?

Does YOUR group want to glean on a specific date not listed yet? Call me and I will put you on the calendar. I would love to have every day scheduled in advance.

CALL or TEXT Karin Page at 816-853-4460 if you can help. Thanks so very much!!!

LOVE TO YOU ALL!
