After Black Friday and Cyber Monday, think of giving back this holiday season on Giving Tuesday.
“We’re encouraging folks to shift their focus on Tuesday, Dec. 2, from buying presents for family and friends to helping provide nourishing produce for the struggling families, children and seniors in the Kansas City metropolitan area,” said Lisa Ousley, Executive Director of After the Harvest. “We can provide more than 50 servings of mashed potatoes this holiday season for each dollar donated to After the Harvest on Giving Tuesday.”
On Giving Tuesday, individuals, families, corporations and businesses, civic and community organizations, and students across the country and around the world will focus on celebrating generosity and giving to support charitable efforts in their communities. Giving Tuesday was started in 2012 by the 92nd Street Y and the United Nations Foundation as a response to commercialization and consumerism in the post-Thanksgiving season.
Here are three easy ways to support After the Harvest on this national day of giving:
1. Donate on Dec. 2. Go to the top of this page and click on donate.
2. Share your Gift of Gleaning Stories.
3. Plan to glean in the spring!
Gift of Gleaning Stories
“Gleaning has changed my life…Honestly. It gets me out of my head. It enables me to make a tangible difference to people in need. It’s fresh air and exercise and quiet and companionable. It’s also so wonderfully Benedictine: Ora Est Labora. Work is prayer. Count on my continued help, and on me continuing to spread the good word to others.”-Sue S.
