Urban Produce Push is ATH’s vision to ensure that every corner of Kansas City has access to an abundance of healthy, nourishing fruits and vegetables. Through UPP, ATH is taking action to address communities struggling most with food insecurity. In these areas, there is a significant lack of resources such as quality grocery stores, community gardens, and access to fresh produce. With your help, our goal is to bridge these gaps and create a more balanced food landscape by providing support where it’s needed most urgently.

UPP-Ward Bound: The History of 64130
Nestled within the heart of Kansas City, Missouri, the 64130 zip code, known as Blue Hills, holds a rich and storied history that speaks to the strength of its community. Blue Hills’ history is a tale of transformation, reflecting the ever-changing dynamics of urban life in America. Once a working-class white neighborhood, it saw a seismic shift in the 1960s due to blockbusting, which led to the departure of many Caucasians. By the 1970s, it had become a majority African-American community, showcasing the resilience of its residents amidst changing demographics.
Today, Blue Hills is home to a significant number of senior citizens, young adults, and an inspiring 83.6% of residents aged 25 and older holding a high school diploma or higher. This educational attainment is a testament to the determination of its people to secure a brighter future.
While the neighborhood has faced economic challenges, with a median household income of $28,500 and a 5.2% unemployment rate, there’s an undeniable spirit of revival. The scars of the 2008 financial crisis still linger in a few boarded-up houses, but the community has largely rebounded, thanks to the dedication of young residents who are breathing new life into the old homes.
In the midst of this transformation, food access remains a vital issue. After the Harvest recognizes the importance of ensuring that every resident has access to fresh and nutritious food. We are committed to supporting Blue Hills on this journey.
Team UPP with 64130: Here's how you can help!
- Volunteer Your Time: Join us in gleaning farms and fields, rescuing fresh produce that would otherwise go to waste. Your hands-on help can directly nourish families in need.
- Become a Monthly Donor: Your consistent support ensures that we can sustain our efforts, year-round. Even a small monthly contribution goes a long way in the fight against food insecurity.
- Rally Your Organization: Encourage your workplace or organization to become ATH sponsors and/or volunteers. Together, we can create a ripple effect of change, impacting entire communities.
- Grow for Us: If you have a green thumb, consider growing fruits and vegetables for After the Harvest. Your garden can be a source of fresh, nutritious produce for those who need it most.
- Adopt a Zip Code: Choose a community that speaks to your heart and adopt a zip code. Your support will help us lower food insecurity rates, empower local growers, and provide essential nourishment to residents. To get started, contact:
