EMILY AKINS
Emily is an editorial director at Hallmark Cards, Inc. where she has worked since 2002. For 14 years, she has led the Hallmark EcoTeam–a group of employees focused on sustainability. She has also been an advocate for local, organic food in the Kansas City community–volunteering and leading the KC Food Circle, serving on the steering committee for the Greater KC Food Policy Coalition and being a member of Fair Share Farm, a community-supported agriculture program, for 14 years. She has written for Edible KC and Evolving Magazine as well as Hallmark’s Think Make Share blog. She wrote her UMKC master’s thesis on the rhetoric of the local food movement in Kansas City. She loves books, vegetables and coffee. Emily lives in Kansas City with her spouse, two daughters and two dogs.
