From Sandy Vivian, ATH Outreach and Communications Director: As the growing season winds down, After the Harvest is still “raising the root” in support of gleaning and the efforts of our extraordinary volunteers who rescued thousands of pounds of produce and delivered it to hungry families in our area. Even Kansas City Mayor Sly James got into the act at a recent ATH visit to City Hall!
Don’t get us wrong…we’re still gleaning and will be even through substantial upcoming freezes (think kale, chard and turnips!). But we just wanted to take a moment to review our year in photos and raise the root in salute to all of the organizations, individuals and families who came out to the farm and did good for our community this season.
Photos backdrops from top to bottom: Mike Wedel, Director of Acquisitions at Harvesters–A Community Food Network; corn gleaners; Vickie Harris, ATH Board Member; the glean queen herself–Emily Worm, Gleaning Network Manager; Leslie Wilson, Policy Assistant at KC Healthy Kids; and onion gleaner.
