Raise the Root! Help rescue bok choy, napa cabbage, lettuce before the farmer turns under the crop at the end of the week
Thursday, June 23, 7:30-10:30 a.m.–Gleaning bok choy, napa cabbage, lettuce and other greens at a farm near Lawrence, KS You’ll see the big red barn first and then the beautiful fields! Located just on the edge of the eastern city limits of Lawrence. The farmer is going to turn these crops under at the end of the week…so can you help rescue them to feed our hungry neighbors? We gleaned here today and the generous farmer donated 420 lbs of beets and 70 lbs of kale and lettuce that we gleaned as well as other produce–totalling 660 lbs!
Or, future gleanings: Sign up now for future gleanings. Listings will say “produce gleaning,” instead of, say, “apple gleaning”, which means we’ll be gleaning, but don’t yet know what will be ready to harvest on which farm within 30-45 minutes of KC. We’ll let you know via e-mail before your gleaning. Signing up for “produce gleanings” gives you (individuals and families and especially group leaders) longer to plan and helps us so very much.
Volunteer opportunities abound!
Become an ATH Yambassador and speak on our behalf in the community, represent us at events…and right now, help us engage Kansas Citians to “Raise the Root” by taking photos for our gleaning awareness campaign.
We’re forming committees now for our 2017 fundraiser which is going to blow the doors off! It promises to be a fun time for planners and participants alike. Could you bring your talents to ATH to help? Join one of these committees: event management, ticket sales, sponsorship, food and beverage or activities.
