Shawnee Community Services, a food pantry and free clothing resource, has offered a hand up to those in need since 1982. Located at 11110 W. 67th Street in Shawnee, Kansas, it serves the entire Kansas City metro area.
SCS’s primary support comes from the resale of donated goods and from cash donations. It operates with three full-time paid staff members and numerous volunteers.
The agency provides food, clothing, advocacy, and emergency financial assistance for shelter, utilities and health care.
Free bread and other bakery products, clothing and shoes are available Monday through Saturday, and a free food pantry is available by appointment. The pantry serves about 260 families a month. Other services include household goods for a small donation, a free book for every child on each visit, a free children’s Christmas party, and a recycling center.
