In partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, After the Harvest is now seeking an AmeriCorp Vista Volunteer. This program is an opportunity for a chosen individual to learn more about what it’s like to work in a nonprofit environment and make a significant difference in people’s lives.
ATH is seeking to hire an AmeriCorps VISTA worker for 2022 to help with our mission of fighting hunger, improving nutrition, and reducing food waste in Kansas City. Offered in conjunction with the UMKC Forward Social Justice and Community Engagement initiative, this position is on par with an internship and is probably best suited to someone about to graduate with a BA or MA who is looking to experience the range of responsibilities in a small but mighty nonprofit.
The ATH VISTA position will focus on community engagement with an emphasis on working closely with UMKC students, faculty, and staff. Responsibilities include volunteer recruiting and management, coordinating volunteer shifts for gleanings and farmer’s market pickups. Additional duties will build on the strengths and interests of the candidate and may include grant writing and development, social media, gleaning, event planning, and data management and analysis. The VISTA worker will be an integral part of our organization and will benefit from hands-on experience, mentoring, professional development, and networking opportunities.
The AmeriCorps VISTA program does not pay a salary, but offers a living stipend ($11,000), 12 months of health coverage, and an education benefit ($6,345) that can be used toward future tuition or student loans. After the Harvest will also pay mileage reimbursement and help connect the Vista volunteer with other social services for housing and food assistance as needed. In return, successful applicant commits to working 32 hours per week for 12 months.
