About After the Harvest:
After the Harvest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing food waste and combating hunger by rescuing surplus fresh produce from farms, produce brokers, and farmer’s markets, then distributing it to local food banks, pantries, and meal programs.

Our mission is to ensure that no good food goes to waste while helping to feed those in need within our community. In 2024 we are launching our Urban Produce Push emphasis (UPP) which targets specific food insecure zip codes within the Greater Kansas City area. We are committed to making a meaningful impact on food insecurity by getting produce directly to the people in need, as well as promoting sustainable agricultural practices to reduce food waste and greenhouse emissions.

Job Description:
After the Harvest is seeking a passionate and strategic Director of Development to lead efforts in diversifying our donor base and expanding our fundraising initiatives. This key leadership role will be responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive strategies to cultivate relationships with donors, secure funding, and raise awareness of our organization’s mission. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in helping After the Harvest achieve its goals and make a significant impact in the fight against food waste and food insecurity.

Key Responsibilities:
Donor Cultivation and Stewardship:
● Identify and cultivate relationships with individual donors, foundations, corporations, and other potential funding sources.
● Develop personalized engagement strategies to maintain and enhance relationships with existing donors.
● Create and implement stewardship plans to acknowledge and recognize donors’ contributions and impact.

Fundraising Strategy:
● Develop and execute a diversified fundraising strategy that includes major gifts, grants, special events, and online fundraising campaigns.
● Research and identify new funding opportunities, including grants and partnerships, to expand the organization’s financial resources.

Strategic Planning and Reporting:
● Collaborate with the Executive Director, Grant Writer, Community Engagement Coordinator, and Board of Directors to develop
annual fundraising goals and budgets.
● Provide regular reports and updates on fundraising progress, donor engagement, and efforts to the leadership team and the board.

Team Leadership and Development:
● Lead and manage a team of fundraising professionals, providing guidance, support, and mentorship.
● Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment that promotes the organization’s mission and values.
● Organize and implement annual fundraising events while working closely with staff and volunteers.

Qualifications:
● Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Nonprofit Management, Business, or related).
● Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, or related roles, with a proven track record of success.
● Strong understanding of nonprofit fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grants, and donor stewardship.
● Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
● Leadership and team management experience.
● Passion for the mission and values of After the Harvest.

After the Harvest is looking for part-time seasonal gleaning coordinators to lead and assist with the logistics of gleanings at local farms and orchards this growing season. This position will start early May and continue through approximately mid November, averaging 10 – 12 hours per week. The position presents a very special opportunity for the right nature loving and people-oriented individual who wants to make a difference in our community.

After the Harvest’s mission is to prevent hunger by rescuing fresh, nutritious produce that would otherwise go to waste and distributing it to organizations feeding hungry people. With a small staff and the help of thousands of local volunteers, we glean (harvest) farmers’ fields of excess produce and pick up already harvested excess produce from farms and markets and transport it to our partners for distribution to food insecure people in the Greater KC area.

Responsibilities:
● Meet and supervise volunteers at farms and orchards, explain farm-specific instructions
and ensure safety during gleaning.
● With the help of Program Staff, coordinate the distribution at the end of the gleaning.
● Take photos and engage in social media during and after gleaning.
● Ensure accurate recordkeeping of each gleaning event and that all relevant data is
entered into the database.
● Work with pantries to ensure receipts are received for food donations.

Requirements:
● Driver’s license, good driving record, current auto insurance
● Ability to lift up to 40 lb. boxes.
● Ability to drive ATH van or pickup truck
● Work schedule is Tuesday and Thursdays 7:00 am – 12:00 pm
● Data entry can be done remotely. This involves confirming volunteer hours, recording weight of produce received and again distributed.

Skills Required:
● Microsoft Office and basic computer skills including familiarity with databases.
● Good verbal and written communication skills
● Ability to work with volunteers of all ages and backgrounds, including small children
● Ability to lead groups
● Experience farming or gardening a plus

After the Harvest’s mission is to provide healthy food for people suffering from food insecurity in the Greater Kansas City area. We do this by rescuing post market fresh vegetables and fruit that are still nutrient dense but on its way to the landfill. We donate and distribute this food to local
pantries and kitchens that serve hungry people. After the Harvest is improving the way our hungry neighbors are able to feed their families with the fresh, nutritious produce they need.

Job Description:
The Driver reports to the Director of Programs to plan, execute, and assess the distribution of the produce inventory acquired daily, Monday through Friday. This position is responsible for a daily route in ATH’s refrigerated truck and/or delivery van and assisting the management of the vehicles’ maintenance.

Responsibilities:
● Follow a daily route picking up from various produce resources and managing distribution to partner agencies. Pickups and deliveries take place most days within the Kansas City metro, and occasionally at farms and agencies within 90 miles of Kansas City.
● Work with staff or volunteers to track all inventory incoming and distribution data for regular reporting.
● As necessary, load/unload produce at After the Harvest’s cold storage facility.
● Daily routine maintenance of company vehicles including gas and checking fluid levels, tires, washing, etc. Maintain DOT Logs and follow DOT regulations.
● Other program and organization tasks and duties as time allows.

Requirements:
● Successful completion of Safe Truck Driver testing. This will consist of portions of written, verbal and driving skills assessment.
● Current Missouri or Kansas Driver’s license, good driving record. Current auto insurance. Ability to safely drive ATH 22 foot box truck, cargo van, and operate liftgate and pallet jack. CDL not required but a plus.
● Ability to pass a DOT physical and able to supply current certificate.
● Ability to lift up to 50 lb. boxes (often multiple times in a row), and work in a variety of
weather conditions.

Schedule:
Part Time (guaranteed 20 Hours per week, occasionally more) Generally 10:30 am – 2:30 pm, during the growing season, approximately once per week, will include a trip to the Bates County June, 2024 area for pick up. These trips will be approximately 7:30 am – 3:00 pm.

Skills Required:
● Previous truck driving experience required
● Previous forklift experience, required
● Comfortable connecting with and relating to farmers, agency staff, and volunteers from a variety of backgrounds. Good customer service skills.
● Knowledge of Word, Excel required.

Salary: $20 per hour
